Tranquil and serene are words we used to describe our encounter at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club. You could add world class too as this club exemplifies the meaning of the word. We have visited a lot of courses this year but this was the nicest our crew has played this year. From the practice facilities, to the tee boxes to the greens, everything is perfect on this track. The Rees Jones designed course seems fairly wide open with large bent grass fairways the lead right up to the front of the greens. The trees are limited to a few holes on the back nine but carefully positioned bunkers and water hazards come into play many times you wouldn’t think they would. My motto is always “keep it in the fairway”. This course did reward you if you did but you still had to deliver a well executed approach shot if you wanted to par the hole. Greens were speedy but we adapted quickly and attempted to position our shots below the pin when possible but occasionally a green side bunker would eat up our ball. Was that our fault? Sure, but a carefully positioned pin would be the blame as they would often be parked close to danger.

Each hole brought something new. We found ourselves pulling out clubs we didn’t expect to use. A 5 wood on a par three? Yep. A 120 yard par three? Yep. We also found ourselves “laying up” on a par four after a poorly hit drive to avoid a tree and stop short of the water hazard. The course really made you plan your approach on each hole. The on-cart GPS helped us navigate as it laid out the roadmap. The overview video of each hole was a nice touch as well.

Our late Sunday tee time allowed for a leisurely paced round. It was calming, relaxing and like I said earlier, tranquil. The fairways were welcoming and so was the staff who were beyond accommodating. We were well taken care of and felt right at home with every encounter we had including at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel that had many food options, coffee shop, room service and of course gambling which we tried as well. We soon found we had used up our luck on the course! Our friends who have golfed the course reiterated our sentiments. This course deserves to be on your “must play list” and affordable pricing may make you wonder you have never booked a tie time. Do yourself a favor and see for yourself.
